VIA Rail (http://www.viarail.ca/en_...) runs routes through Jasper, which you can often include as a free stop-over if heading between Vancouver and Edmonton.
It is also popluar to travel down to Lake Louise and Banff, making stops at Athabasca Falls, Peyto Lake, Crowfoot Glacier, and Bow Lake.
